New Band Nirvana

The first rehearsal with the full line-up of the new band was last night, it was a great success! It was all very comfortable and natural, everyone seemed to be on a similar wavelength and it's all sounding very good. It's great to be back in a band again!

As for Nirvana I see in the comments Graham said that no-one would remember them if Kurt hadn't shot himself? Well, I would still remember them. Nevermind came out when I was 15 and had such a huge impact on me, and so many other people my age... ok, we were young and naive at the time but it doesn't stop Nirvana being a perfect expression of all the emotional shit you feel as a teenager. Probably why kids are still buying the albums today. If they weren't good it the music just wouldn't have that longevity.

As for Andy's suggestion that Oasis should get in because Nirvana only made one good album, I would say it was the other way around. All the Nirvana albums are excellent and Definitely Maybe was Oasis only good album, although a few of the songs on the second one were good too. Anyway, we'll ask Robbie what he thinks when he makes his acceptance speech. What a stupid argument, I can't believe I posted all that. Back to the important stuff:

Snooker Player all time top 10:

10. Mark Williams
9. Fred Davis
8. John Pullman
7. Jimmy White
6. Alex Higgins
5. Ronnie O'Sullivan
4. Ray Reardon
3. Steve Davis
2. Stephen Hendry
1. Joe Davis

Now that's controversial. ;)

Comments:
Mike, this is Stedders, and we disagree again! :-) Alex Higgins is comfortably the best ever snooker player, in terms of talent. Granted he didn;t win as many as others but more because he liked to entertain and take risks. If you judge best ever by ability to do things other players couldn't, I think you'll find Hurricane at number one. His safety play was also quality when he bothered to do any!

To put Reardon above him is a joke (tell me it is a joke!) ;-)

The only player ever to really come close would be Ronnie, and perhaps the dullard Hendry.

Come on man, sort it out! (but a good post anyway).

o'sullivan is without a doubt the greatest. what he does is incredible and we are all very lucky to be able to watch what is effectively the best sportsman ever in action (only schumacher comes close but as with all motor sports there is the question over how much the machinery contributes).

taking risks and entertaining people is a fucking stupid thing to do if you're a sportsman and you don't win. don't get me wrong i loved higgins but one has to admit that hendry and the nugget were better "players". prolly dracula too but i don't really remember.

cheers,
graham.

ps. mike your comments about nirvana are wrong. i am clearly right. point: if the bloke from travis had shot himself then people would hold them in the same regard. discuss. actually, don't bother.

The difference being that people thought Nirvana were an amazing breath of fresh air that totally changed music before Kurt killed himself and people think Travis are another boring and annoying band that sound like a million others?

Yes, Ronnie is clearly the most naturally talented (as was Higgins in his day and Jimmy White) but he hasn't achieved as much as Davis, Hendry or Reardon yet and nor did Higgins or White. Snooker's about a lot more than just being able to pot balls quickly, Ronnie's getting the mental side sorted and I think he'll become the greatest ever but he needs to put together 5 or 6 world championship wins first, so the list will probably change in a few years.

Ronnie is the bestest & Nirvana were over rated toss, who have acheived longevity thanks to the daft twat shooting himself.

Lots of love, Alex from Rebus.

How can you ignore the impact Nirvana had before Kurt shot himself? Him shooting himself is quite clearly irrelevant to anyone who liked them before that happened.

You're obviously too young to remember. :p

Nirvana are/were toss.

Overrated toss.

Yes.

I have "Nevermind" but its shit.

Alex from Rebus.xxxxxxx

Alex loosen your scarf, its clearly stopping the blood flowing to your brain. Neverminds a wonderful album.

Who's to say Kurt wouldn't have surpassed his past achievnents if he'd missed, he clearly had a lot of internal angst, good for songs (I believe).

I presume you believe John Lennon was also an overated tosser for not ducking.

Andy.

I think Nirvana were influenced by the Pixies!

Im not currently wearing a scarf. If i had been whilst listening to Nirvana it might well have come in handy. As i could have used it to cover my ears.

John Lennon/Jimi Hendrix etc.etc. "Ooh imagine what they could have done if they hadn't died" Yeah, yeah. Whatever. Its got nothing to do with what they produced whilst alive.

If Alex Higgins had been shot in the head in his "prime" he would have been top of Mikes list.

"If you wanna be a star, you gotta kill yourself, man…it might be messy, but it’s money for free" GoldieLookinChain.

Anyway, my point.

Nirvana. Overrated. Toss.
