Budapest
Hey there Blogheads (especially Wilko Johnson - you legend!), I know it's been a while since I last put fingertip to keyboard, hope some of you are still checking on here every now and again to see what further predicaments myself and Michael "Heffervescent" Hefferan have managed to get ourselves into!
The Heff is prolly on a plane back from Budapest as I write this, we went out on Thursday and I had to fly back on Sat to play a gig, so I only had two nights out there but managed to pack in a good time nonetheless. Budapest is cool enough, weather was only marginally better than it is here at the mo (i.e a few showers here and there but pretty warm), food was good, drink was also good and the people were lovely - apart from a supermarket check-out woman who must have mis-interpreted my request for a carrier bag into something more akin to "I want to stab out your children's eyes to save them from suffering the misfortune of gazing upon a face as uniquely horrifying as yours." A fairly amusing - if abstract - episode of my trip! We had a great group of people, and I look forward to hearing about their antics over the last two days. Highlight of my trip was either catching up on sleep that had been sorely missed the previous couple of days, drinking till erupting in "The Old Man's Club" or witnessing a non-fatal-but-pretty-exciting-nonetheless car/bus crash about ten feet from where we were sitting outside a hotel on Fri.
Friday night's drinking was cut short at about midnight cos I had to leave early to catch a plane home, but I still felt pretty rough Sat morning - and slightly panicked after I forgot to set my watch to local time and ended up having about an hour to make a 70 minute trip the airport (DOH!) - lucky for me it was only about 30 mins by taxi (although it kinda ruined the point of getting a £10 tube pass..). Felt distinctly wind-swept and interesting flying back on my own, also managed to devour most of the book I'm reading, "The Last Don" by Mario "The Godfather" Puzo. Landed at Bristol airport at half twelve, home in Reading by 2.30pm, quick bite to eat (followed by mandatory power nap) and off to gig in Bracknell for 6pm. Ended up staying out late after gig - having the BEST time - so crawled back home at about 4am.
Up at 9am for brekkie, on the road to pick up Nat from Red Antennae (who are now called Fitzroy, I think..) for a recording sesh in Hackney, laid down some tracks, back on the way home at 3pm. Dropped Nat off and fought my way through some amateur tour-de-France wannabe types for a White Sunday rehearsal at Plug n Play (arriving an hour late..). Good White Sunday rehearsal, dropped Jimmy G back home afterwards, went home myself for a plate of food and a relaxing bout of unconsciousness to end my weekend.
So, in total: Distance travelled = Budapest to Bristol 1022miles
Bristol to Reading 70 miles
Reading to Hackney (return, via Marlow) 100m
Total = 1192miles
Performed: 1 gig
1 recording sesh
1 rehearsal
It's nice to feel that you've really achieved a lot in one weekend, but nicer - I have decided - to not feel like you could do with a holiday to recover from a holiday.

I take no pleasure in learning of the demise of Y99er, hopefully they are merely "rebranding" rather than disbanding.
