Phone Pirates
I got a call from one of my friends yesterday, he was sounding a bit puzzled.
"Yeah, I just got this new phone, and it seems to have a Pete and the Pirates song on it..."
So it seems that finally the song Nokia bought off them is on phones and out in the shops! So if you are upgrading to an N91, maybe you'll get it! I'm almost as excited about it as if it was my own band.
Speaking of my own band, looks like I might be starting to get something together with a few people as well. It's quite exciting. I've really missed not being in a band the last few months. Probably before that gets up and running Müf are doing a comeback gig as part of the Fringe Festival which I'm really looking forward to. 22nd August at the BBBs, put it in your diaries!

Müf songs finished!
http://www.myspace.com/mufband
Have a listen and let us know what you think! I was quite worried they were going to turn out a bit crap but the tweaks we made the last day we went into the studio have sorted everything out I think. They sound really good. Great Turd Polishing from Bleeding Ear. You can't beat that Engoodinate button.

I'm back!
Hello, I've been away for a few days enjoying a nice relaxing holiday somewhere towards Wales. It was very nice.
Heard the new Pete and the Pirates CD whilst there, it is excellent. I reckon better than the previous one. It's out end of July.
Fringe business is moving on fast. I haven't actually been doing anything other than a few website updates here and there but I still get to find out what everyone else is doing and it's all sounding very promising. There's very little time until the Fringe Fest starts now though. Pressure!
Apparently the new Müf CD is mixed and mastered and hopefully AK has picked it up from Bleeding Ear! If so I'm sure I'll be telling you a lot more about that soon.

World Cup and Nerdy On-Line Games
... are the main reasons I've had nothing to post recently. Sorry.
If you are bored check out Death By Melody on-line magazine. Hopefully the very talented guys who made that will be able to help us design a really cool fringe festival program.
If you are bored and the people that wrote that magazine then I'm sorry.
Also, is anyone collecting Panini World Cup stickers? If so do you have a swap of the secret sticker, the Panini special stamp?

Dear diary...
Yeah, well since I got made redundant from my last guitar string-fundraising position I haven't had much time to myself so I guess I should have lots to tell you, dear reader. Well, I do, but most of it is pretty dull so I'll try and come up with some highlights, in no particular order:
The esteemable Mr. Harrington and myself were interviewed on Radio BBC Berkshire by Henry Kelly a while back, to explain and plug the Fringe Festival, and a very pleasant experience it was too. Who am I? I am a very personable Irish gent, a consumate broadcasting pro who managed to make my - and I am assuming Kevin's - visit to the station a relatively painless experience and one that was over far too quickly as far as I was concerned. Top man, nice one Henry! Think the appearance managed to raise the interest levels in the fringe fest and bring it to the attention of a wider audience, so job done!
White Sunday are going through some exciting times as well - we've found our drum-bitch (sorry Tony.. is it too soon to be making jokey drummer put-downs yet?) and according to my gut instincts he's a winner. We're rehearsing frenetically to get ready for some low-key warm up shows around the place over the next few weeks before heading into a studio with *famous producer chappy* to record an EP for our management to bandy around the place. Actually, I'm not sure if the unsuccessful applicants are even aware that they were unsuccessful yet.. ah well, shit happens. Jim is writing new songs all the time and they appear to be getting better and better and better. One of them is in a Small Faces stylee, I'm using a vintage Fender combo these days and it's brilliant! I feel like Ron Wood in places, Jeff Beck in others, and we're all working together to get some new and exciting sounds down in the rehearsal room. After the enforced lay-off while we were searching for a drummer, it's hugely satisfying to get the ship back on even keel.
Errrm.. this girl dumped me recently, that wasn't so good. It's a long story, and I've decided not to name names or go into great detail, but apparently I was "boyfriend material" and she wasn't looking for that. Ladbrokes currently have the betting as: 2:1 - convenient excuse, 7;2 bad timing, 10:1 I said or did something stupid without realising it and turned her against me. Rrrrrrubbish, whichever way you look at it.
Fringe festival - as Mikey "Heff!" Hefferan has put so succinctly - is looking good. Which reminds me, I must phone people tonight and see what is up with a coupla things. Except I'm rehearsing tonight.. gah! Hmm.. some tactical fag-break phone calls are in order, I reckon!
Finished recording the most recent (hopefully not the last, but you never know..) Muf CD the other day as well! Can't wait to hear the final mix, it's being put through the Bleeding Ear Engoodenation process as I type this. Initial rushes were very impressive, we have A&R guys sniffing around us like bloodhounds at the moment (Alcoholics and Relatives, that is).
So yes, busy, busy, busy - as ever.
That is all. For now...

Quick... better get a new post on!
I just made a sarcastic comment about AK never updating the blog so I'd better quickly post something!
Er...
It's funny how sometimes the more that's going on the less I have to post about.
Reading Fringe Festival is taking off in a big way. It's taking up more and more of my time (still a fraction of the time some people are working on it) but we are starting to see some results. Last year we'd done nothing at this point, this year we have LOADS of exciting events planned already and plenty more in negotiation. I don't want to step on our marketing team's toes by leaking any of the good events before we're ready, but I really want to!
One that I can talk about that really excites me, and I hope we can get it going in time, is an "inter-office battle of the bands" that'd get big local companies to throw bands together and pitch them in sonic battle! Potentially it'd be a huge amount of fun and get lot of people who wouldn't normally be involved into the whole idea of a fringe festival. We really need to get moving on it fast though. There are only just over 10 weeks left and if people are to put bands together we need to get invites etc. out in the next week.
